Single to double: Wrestling guide
Turn a stuffed single leg into a double leg by changing your hips and angle.
A good opponent defends the single leg by sprawling the free leg back or hopping away. Chain wrestling is what you do next: you change the finish before they can reset.
The most common chain is single to double. You hold the leg you have, step your head to the other side of their hips and attach your second arm to the other leg.
The key is that you keep moving forward and keep your head tight. A pause is a stuff.
Key points
- Keep your head tight to their ribs on the single. Do not stand tall.
- As they hop, step your trail foot up and bring your head across their hips.
- Reach with your free arm behind the far knee, not at the ankle.
- Drive through with your hips and shoulders to a double leg finish.
- If you lose the single, shoot again at once while they are still in motion.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Pausing on the single. Move to the double as soon as they defend. A pause is a sprawl.
- Lifting your head. Keep your head tight so they cannot underhook or whizzer.
- Reaching for the ankle. Reach behind the knee for a stronger grip.
