Building a shot chain: Wrestling guide
Plan three-move chains from your best shot.
A shot chain is your plan for what happens if the first attack fails. Pros pick a primary shot, a backup, and a finish from the backup.
Choose chains that fit your body. If your best shot is a single, your chain might be single, double, then trip.
Rehearse until the chain happens without thought.
Key points
- Start with your best shot, then pick the shot that answers its most common defence.
- Each link should change level, angle or leg.
- A chain is three moves, not ten. Too many dilute your finishes.
- Rehearse both sides.
- Review your chain after live goes and fix the weak link.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Chains too long. Keep to three moves you can finish.
- Never practising the second link. Give it equal reps.
- Practising only one side. Rehearse both stances.
