Re-shots and recovery: Wrestling guide
Defend the sprawl by turning the corner and shooting again.
Most good wrestlers sprawl well. The re-shot is how you beat the sprawl: shoot, get sprawled on, circle off and shoot again before they can stand.
When you are sprawled on, do not drive into them. Turn the corner, bring your hips down and attack the leg again from a new angle.
Re-shots need quick feet more than strength.
Key points
- Keep your hands up and your elbows in when they sprawl.
- Circle toward the side of their weaker leg.
- Come up on your toes and drive your hips back under you.
- Re-shoot at the nearest leg, not the one you wanted.
- Every re-shot has a level change. Do not shoot from a stand.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Driving into the sprawl. Circle off instead. You cannot push through.
- Standing up to reset. Keep your level low. Standing means a free snap-down.
- Re-shooting the same leg. Change the target to the leg that is exposed.
