Beating the muay mat: Muay Thai guide
The puncher walks through kicks. Use them anyway, and use the clinch.
The muay mat fighter is a puncher. They accept kicks to land heavy hooks and crosses. They like to stand and trade, and they are dangerous when you stay in the pocket.
Use distance and rhythm. Low kicks accumulate and slow them. The teep stops the charge. When they close, tie them up in the clinch and score with knees. Don't brawl on their terms.
Key points
- Low kicks wear down the legs of a puncher.
- Teeps stop the forward walk.
- Keep the guard high against hooks.
- Tie up in the clinch when they are in range.
- Don't stand in the pocket.
- Exit on angles after you land.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Trading punches. You are not the puncher. Keep distance.
- Staying in the pocket. Throw and leave.
- Dropping the hands. Hands up against hooks.
