Warm-up, corner and between rounds: Muay Thai guide
How to arrive ready and how to use the one minute you have.
A good warm-up raises your heart rate and loosens your hips without tiring you. Start about thirty minutes before the bout with mobility, then shadow, then light pads. Finish about ten minutes before.
Between rounds, you have one minute. Your corner has a job: give water, give one instruction and calm you down. Look at them, breathe and listen. Do not talk much.
Key points
- Warm up: mobility, shadow, light pads, in that order.
- Finish the warm-up a few minutes before the bout.
- Agree one corner voice. Too many instructions confuse.
- Breathe slowly in the break. Sip water.
- Take one clear instruction per break.
- Walk back to the centre ready.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Over-warming and burning out. Warm up, then rest. Keep energy for the fight.
- Many voices in the corner. One voice, one instruction.
- Gulping water. Small sips.
