Playing to the judges: Muay Thai guide
Finishing rounds, showing control and avoiding the lost point.
Judges see the whole ring but remember the last moments of a round. A strong finish can steal a round that was close. A messy exchange, a stumble or a visible wince can lose one.
You can shape what they see. Finish each round with a clean technique and walk back to the corner calmly. Never show pain. In the clinch, break with a strike, not a shrug.
Key points
- Finish rounds with a clean teep or kick.
- Walk back calmly. A calm face reads as control.
- Never show pain. It tells the judges the shot landed.
- Reset to your stance after exchanges. Do not hang on.
- Take the centre of the ring. The fighter in the centre looks in charge.
- Respect the rules. Fouls cost points.
Common mistakes and how to fix them
- Showing pain. Keep your face neutral. It signals dominance.
- Rushing at the bell. Finish with a clean technique, not a scramble.
- Hugging in the clinch. Strike or sweep, or break.
